“Today was a day like any other except that your aunt told you you were perfectly in line with your astrological chart. You come across a shop you have never seen before and you are fascinated by the display. A level headed blancmange curls itself sensually into a basket of hand warmers. This takes you back. You close your eyes and think of lust on the Prairie. You walk into the heady air of the premises. What you find is a seriously attractive array of products. These things are so natural so free and so sexy that you hide one in your bonnet. Struggling with the strings you limp home to avoid detection. No one is there to condemn you. Once home you sift like a layer of dust up the stairs, you open the troublesome shutters and sing to your friends out the window.”

Gemini Girls has been recorded and produced by Capitol K at the Total Refreshment Centre. “Gemini girls” - a dark, glistening and sexually confusing net under layer will be rustling fervently against your nipples (pause) as you once again duct tape yourself into the leather corner couch.

‘After convincing Gloucestershire university technicians into believing we were friendly teaching staff earlier this year, we created our green screen Gemini visuals in their airy film labs, spreading light on the wheaty Stroud underground scene.’

Stroud, a town filled with mums and promise, has had a big influence in cultivating Mermaid Chunky’s sound, naturally watering it with slime as you would a baby alien from Argos. The valley girls have their roots in the arts collective SVA - an ancient scene, breaking the mystique of expectations through joyful talent shows and shy showoffs. The idea of a fully immersive mess is often embarked upon by the saplings of the town. Availability of cheap warehouse space, redundant shops, PA equipment and a whole array of visiting artists from John Cooper Clark, Vernon & Burns, Brickhouse collective to Cube Microplex, Kid Carpet and TRC have become important logs in fueling this fiery experimental arts scene. Convenient club night culture on your doorstep = Nothing to do except slut drops and big thinking. Stroud has an identity crisis … a small town with the ambitions of a city (wicker handbags).

So it is no surprise to anyone that Mermaid Chunky have a brand new buttered up single on their hands. The track ‘Gemini Girls’ is a sandwich of heavy primary school bass and distracted angel rap served on a kitsch crockery saucer. This song was concocted by Freya Tate and Moina Moin in the fertile womb of the Total Refreshment Centre – produced and recorded by the one and only Capitol K, who’s mixed the likes of Flamingods, Snapped Ankles, The Comet is Coming, Alabaster DePlume, Boiler Room Sessions and Deerhunter.
